Check in was quick and our luggage was taken
up to our rooms.
INTERNET
Free wireless internet connection in the lobby area. There
is plenty of room and many
outlets to plug into. If you do not bring your own laptop,
you can use a computer 24/7 in
the Sports Bar for $5.00 / 30 minutes.
ROOMS
Our room numbers were 5110 (standard) and
5113 (Jr. Suite).
Both had a partial oceanview and were looking to the west
which made it great for the sunset.
All rooms have the standard RIU features. The bathrooms
are big and stacked with everything
you may need. The bar/fridge is refilled every two days.
The standard room had two double beds pushed together and
the JR Suite had a king + a twin bed.
Also, the Jr. Suite has a larger balcony, almost double
the size of the standard room.
We had requested a crib for my daughter so they brought
one up to both rooms.
All rooms have plasma TVs.
Note, if you leave a DO NOT DISTURB sign on your
door for the day - your bar will not be refilled!
POOL
The hotel has one mail pool which splits
onto two levels with a bridge in between
(my pictures of the hotel). The upper has a swim up bar
– which seems to be very ‘happening’
most of the day, with many people enjoying the music and
activities.
The lower half is a little bigger and better for swimming.
Aerobics, games, pool volleyball, etc. are some of the activities
in the pool area.
BEACH
Before you leave home, you should know that
you are going to Costa Rica, not Aruba.
The beaches in Costa Rica are beautiful, including this
one!
It is on the Pacific Ocean and thus a black sand beach,
but it is clean, good for swimming, long and safe for walking
and running – as well as very lush with tons of shade.
If you know what to expect, you will be happy with this
beach by all means.
Activities on the beach include soccer, volleyball, horseback
riding and ATVs.
If you are lucky, there will be a gorgeous sunset every
night.
YOU SHOULD KNOW…
- Bring bug repellent. You are in Costa
Rica.
I had both mosquito and sand flee bites on my legs
(all from the first night when I didn’t use my “OFF”)
– but nobody else in my family had any?!
- If you want to see Costa Rica –
leave the resort!
You have to do some kind of tour…or rent a car…or
hang with the locals.
If you spend your whole vacation on the property, I am afraid
Costa Rica may not be very
appealing at all (except for the home grown bananas in the
buffet!! Mmm…)
- You can take a boat to Playa Coco for
$10 USD from the beach by the hotel
This is a lot faster and more affordable than taking a car/taxi.
However, please note – you will be taken from shore
to the boat on a small zodiac, and chances are you will
get a little splashed.
Also, the town is very, very laid back – all surfers
and fisherman.
No need to over dress.
- Dress code is: long pants for A La Carte but not so strict
for the buffet
- You must use the Jacuzzi in the Spa!! It is gorgeous,
huge and in a very relaxing setting
(SPA
JACUZZI).
- There is a vacant lot next to the Riu
where a new Riu Palace will be built!
- The closest day trip you can do is PALO VERDE and well
worth going. You will see monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and
many different bird species during the boat tour through
the national park.
